Sometimes, when I don’t have a specific direction for my tangling, I just pull tangles at random. For this tile, I chose the section of the string first, and then the random tangle. I wasn’t quite sure what to do, at first, when Vega came out of the tangle jar. I’m used to drawing it as a border or a ribbon, rather than a fill. But I have to say, I might use it more often after this… I really like the results.
Portals. So many choices. Where will they all lead. Some appear to be places with natural growth and others more rigid, enclosed. So many choices. Flutter. To me, the two sections with the Queen‘s Crown in them remind me of butterfly wings. I think of them every time I see it. Zentangle drawn on Official Zentangle tile using a black, Micron pen. Tangles: Bales Chard Echoism Jonqal Pinwheels Queen‘s Crown Vega
Relaxation. When I hold out this tile and squint at it, I get the feeling of a daybed, or the corner of a couch in an atrium. It feels like I could snuggle against the pillows with a good book or a sketch pad! Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Bamboo! This tile includes the first tangle I designed: Bamboo. While it‘s not an “official” tangle, it‘s still one of my favorites. It works as a filler or a border. You could even use it as a tangelation with Hollibaugh! Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Bristol Vellum using a black Micron pen. Simple divisions. The string for this tile was very simple. The space was divided into three sections with horizontal lines. The tile was then divided roughly in half by the vertical line. I did this to remind myself that I don‘t need to have a complicated string to make a pretty design. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Hungry? To me, it looks like the Bumper area is a mouth, getting ready to eat the Bronx Cheer. It makes me hungry! Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black Micron pen. Tangles: Bronx Cheer Bumper Cubine Dex Dribbetz Kule Vega Xircus
Simplicity. Sometimes I just like simple, bold designs. This tile is a good example. I wanted to play with a few tangles and some deep shadowing. I think the effect would have been lost in a more complicated drawing. Zentangle drawing done with Micron pen on Strathmore Vellum Bristol . Tangles: Appearance Frondous Magma Trigue Vega
