While I was locked away from everyone because of the construction, I managed to make this dress for Tuna. I used the Striped Dress pattern from the pattern set. Instead of piecing together strips of fabric, I found a fabric that was already striped. I also started a pair of shoes, but didn’t finish them in time to take a picture, so you’ll have to wait until next week to see them!

Note: Today’s post was originally written and published in November of 2012, on another website I own. I’m sharing it here as a “Throwback Thursday” so that you know my “sudden” interest in dolls is not new and not just a Covid obsession! This post is image heavy. In addition, there are a couple of pictures of an almost anatomically correct, nude doll below! I thought I would show you a doll I made that was delivered to her owner last week!

Indeed, she does! These are from the bloomers/shorts pattern. One niggling problem that I have is that I feel like the waist should be higher up on these. I may adjust the pattern, in the future, for a better fit. Other than that, I think they’re cute! #artdoll #catdoll #dressupdoll #sewing #koalaandmilapatterns

How could you resist a kitty like this? From her tiny ear stud to her name tag, she’s a bundle of fun! I got all of her parts sewn together and stuffed, today. Tomorrow I will sew on her arms and legs. They are just pinned for the picture. And hopefully, make her some bloomers. Having fun, staying safe! #artdoll #catdoll #dressupdoll #sewing #koalaandmilapatterns

Yesterday you saw the back of Tuna-the-Cat. Today, I finished all the applique and button sewing. I made the name tag out of a piece of muslin. I stamped the name using Archival ink, and then went over it with a Pitt Pen. My signature is on the other half. This will get sewn into the seam when the body is assembled. I’m very impressed with this new sewing machine.

Now, both sides of the pants have completed pockets. I didn’t know if I would like this mix-up of fabrics, but I really do! I can imagine what they would look like with a white, hot pink or bright red top! Maybe I can finish them over the weekend!

I bet you’re trying to figure out what you’re looking at here. No, it isn’t anything to do with Zentangle, other than I like the mixture of black-and-white patterns because it reminds me of tangling. Maybe this hint will help: Do you get it? Not yet? The first image is of a section of a pair of pants I am making. What you see is the right-side, the upper pocket, (altered from the pattern,) and part of the cargo pocket.

Another Bunny

Did I tell you that I have a thing for bunnies? I do! This little felt bunny is from a pattern I created years ago. She also has clothes, but I’m still sorting stuff and haven’t found them yet. Oh, and yes, that IS carrots on the fabric! I bought it a long time ago to make clothes for bunnies! Enjoy!

I have a big thing about shoes. Personally, I have 3 pairs that I wear: flip-flops, at home, sneakers for hiking and walking a lot and sandals to wear in the summer. But for my dolls, it’s another story. It seems like most of them have more shoes than clothes! I normally make a pair to go with each outfit. I changed the Luna Lapin pattern to make Mitsuki and now the feet are longer.

I made Mitsuki a lounging outfit. And then, I couldn’t find it, or her! Oh my! After a few days, she reappeared, and I discovered she had gone to Santa Fe! What? Bad bunny! She says she went to get some ideas for clothes she wants me to make. Apparently she has some new ideas. We’ll have to wait and see how this develops.

In order to make masks for my family and friends, I ended up purchasing a new sewing machine. It came with a cover which was black, and hard. It think it was actually meant to be used when transporting the machine in the car. It definitly wasn’t designed to be used on a daily basis. I wanted some kind of cover that would keep lint, dust and dirt off of the machine.

New Bunny

In Japan, there is a traditional myth about a white rabbit that lives in the moon. Also, in the winter, snow sculptures are made representing small, white rabbits or hares. They are referred to as yuki usagi. I was originally going to give my new bunny a french personality, but I have changed my mind. She is going to be Japanese. So, I’m introducing you to Mitsuki Bun-Bun.

Space Patrol

I dug up this photo yesterday for another reason, but I thought all of you might like to see it. When I was a kid (i.e. a million years ago,) I started a business selling clothing for troll dolls. I created a lot of original designs, which made my clothing popular with my peers. Here are three characters from the Space Patrol series. From left to right: Guard, Medic, Officer.

Yesterday, I got up later than usual, so I was running behind. After a trip to return unneeded things to the storage unit, and a walk to pick up the mail, I was further behind. My regular social media tasks also took up a good chunk of time. By the time I was going to sew masks, I realized I wasn’t really up for it. I decided to give myself a “personal day” to do whatever I felt like.

Luna Lapin

Sometimes, you just need some bunny to love! With everything going on in the world, I am having some issues with making art. However, I don’t want to let that stop my creativity completely. I’ve been making masks for myself and my husband, and now I will be making more this week for a few friends. But over the weekend, I decided to sew something just for the fun of it!
