Zen Gem: Sugilite

Sugilite is a rare purple cyclosilicate mineral. It was named after the Japanese petrologist, Ken-ichi Sugi, who first identified it in 1944 in Iwagi Islet, Japan. It is found primarily in Japan, Quebec, Canada and at the Wessels mine in South Africa although other deposits have been found since 1977.

It is often has inclusions of Richterite (blue) and rusty looking Bustamite. It‘s color ranges from royal purple through fuchsia. It can have some translucence.

The crystal form is extremely rare.

This stone is associated with the crown chakra. It can be used to enhance functions of pineal, pituitary and adrenal glands. It activates and balances the brain hemispheres. This purple stone can strengthening the heart and it aids physical healing and the purification of bodily systems. It is an emotional balancer and reduces stress. Sugilite can bring higher spiritual awareness into physical reality. Use it to enhance sensitivity. Because it has very strong spiritual protective qualities, it is excellent for use during meditation and channeling.
