Today, I took Eni Oken's Art Raffle app for a spin. This tile is the result! For my first tile in eons, it’s not bad! If you tangle, you should get this FREE app, it’s lots of fun! This tile was created following the instructions from Eni Oken ’s Art Club ’s latest lesson, Glazed Whitework . It all started with a watercolor tile. It was an interesting challenge to draw the string and all of the tangles using a white colored pencil. Then more color was added creating the depth and shading you see here. One of the most challenging things was to select appropriate tangles. It’s much more difficult to create detail with colored pencils than if you were using an inking pen.
Another DingsplatZ today! I’ve discovered that about 3 tangles, along with some perfs and dots works well for creating these! My favorite part, though, is the shading. It amazes me how much life it adds to the pen lines! Zentangle drawn on kraft colored Stonehenge multi using black, sepia and brown, Micron pens and white gel pen. Shading done with graphite pencil and white charcoal pencil. Tangles: Antidot Knase Ravel
I recently visited Holland, Michigan for a little R-and-R with my husband and older daughter. We decided to walk the main, downtown shopping area, looking in various stores. We came across The Bridge , a store that specializes in unique, fair trade, import items. There were some very interesting things in the store, but the most fascinating to me was paper made from elephant dung! I purchased both a small, spiral-bound book and a box of small, loose sheets .
While I was working on yesterday’s tile, I was thinking that I would like to try this technique on a tan tile, with a Southwestern, Native American pottery theme. I gave it a shot here. I’m not totally enthralled with it because I feel like the entire tile reads too “brown,” without enough light contrast. I will probably give this another try over the weekend. That said, I do like the tile for what it is!
Template. If you look closely at the string I used for this tile, you‘ll see two vases. I traced around a vase-shaped template, reversing and overlapping it for the second shape. Graphic. I love this paper! Using a tan paper allows me to add both high and low lights to the various designs. In addition, this combination produces a very graphic effect. I bought a large sheet of this paper for a few dollars and cut out my own “tiles. This makes using the paper very affordable. Rotation. It‘s interesting the way the design feels like everything is wrapped around the Bunzo as if it‘s surrounded by a mini cyclone of patterns. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Bristol Vellum using a black Micron pen. Tangles: Ambler Bunzo Ennies Florz Indy-Rella Jetties Knase Purk

Rhodochrosite. I have always been fascinated with beautiful stones. But it never occurred to me to draw them until recently. Now, I‘ve become obsessed with them, so I plan on challenging myself to draw and color more of them in the future! It all adds up. Sometimes I create a tile with a lot of patterns, and it just doesn‘t work. This one has a lot of patterns, and I think it does work! It‘s kind of fun to discover all the different designs in this one. Zentangle drawing done with Micron pen on Zentangle™ Tile . Tangles: Drack D‘Rua Hypnotic Ibex Knase Stature Stonework Web
