Project Pack 22 - Day 2 - 5 Spirals The video for this lesson is here . In the second lesson, Molly and Martha show us how to complete a pre-strung, 5xPhive tile. This project uses all the the tools that came in the project pack to decorate 5 spirals arranged in a wreath. I am starting to get the hang of working over the Moonlight ink with graphite and the white chalk pencil. The main conclusion that I’ve come to is to let that ink get good and dry! Since I live in Arizona, where it is hot enough to bake cookies on your dashboard in the summer… letting the ink sit undisturbed over night did the trick. Shading and highlighting was more succesful this time!
The final lesson for Project Pack 8 involves drawing on six 3-Z tiles. Since this is also the week of registration and sports tryouts for school, it will take me a few days to complete the set. In the interim, here is a standard completed tile, using my standard method of randomly choosing tangles and filling in a string. I did incorporate a few new variations of traditional tangles that I’ve recently learned. It meant a lot of line work, but these tiles generally finish quickly.
PP08 - Day 5a - Fescu, Fife, Gourdous, Tripoli At this point in this project pack Maria tackles a large project: Creating on nine different black Zendala tiles. This is shown across two different videos, Part One and Part Two . If you bought the Project Pack 8 kit, you have a single, black Zendala tile with a random string. You will have to scroll through the videos to find the parts that apply to the tile you have.
Project Pack 07 - Day 4 This video for this day’s project is located here . Today’s project was to use black Bijou tiles with the blue pastel pencil to show how a blue-grey color can be used to advantage on a black tile. All the tangling was done with a gold, Gelly Roll pen. The flow from this pen is lush, and you have to get used to what speed to use to achieve the line quality you want. If you hesitate or pause, the ink keeps right on flowing!
These are “practice” tiles for an upcoming project for mid-July. I like them so much that I am posting them now. The middle one on the left doesn’t exactly have a name… It may be derived from Toodles (possibly). For those of you who’ve done this project in the past: Shhh! Zentangle drawn on a Zentangle, black, Bijou tiles. Drawing was done using several colors of Sakura’s Moonlight gel pens.
Continuing a with a bit of ocean theme. I learned this version of Tripoli from watching a video in which Martha (from Zentangle) described taking her children to the local aquarium and watching the jelly fish. While these don’t look exactly like them, it does invoke the feeling of moon jellies! I chose the Sand Swirl tangle for the background to act as a contrast to the individual motifs.
Today’s tile for Zentangle’s “Bijou Be Well 2025” project features the tangle Tripoli. The Bijouism for the day is “Look up”. The video for this tangle is here . Zentangle drawn on pink printed parchment card stock using a black, Micron pen. Coloring done with colored pencil. Shading done with black colored pencil and graphite pencil. Highlights done with white colored pencil. #zentangle #tangle #BeWell2025 #MentalHealthAmerica #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #4Rebecca Tangles: Tripoli
This tile was created following the instructions from Eni Oken ’s Art Club ’s latest lesson, Glazed Whitework . It all started with a watercolor tile. It was an interesting challenge to draw the string and all of the tangles using a white colored pencil. Then more color was added creating the depth and shading you see here. One of the most challenging things was to select appropriate tangles. It’s much more difficult to create detail with colored pencils than if you were using an inking pen.
Waltz. 1.. 2.. 3… 1.. 2.. 3… And a twirl around here and there. When I look at this tile, that ballroom dance, learned so long ago comes to mind. I like the counterpoint of the graceful Mooka dancing around the edges of the triangular, jeweled Tripoli. I loved creating this tile. It’s simple design allowed me to practice precise, balanced line placement. I find that very Zen. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Shading done with graphite pencil.
This tile is from Project Pack 2, The Twelve Days of Zentangle. On day two, we are using two Zentangle tiles. The first tile, which is black, has a hole cut in the center. Then tangling is done around the empty space. I added red metallic gel pen dots around the center frame and I used a grey metallic gel pen to fill in the spaces in the Flux. Metallic ink just doesn’t show up very well in photographs, unfortunately!
Reticulum. Recently, Zentangle released a Kitchen Table video that featured using Tripoli as a Reticulum (as the underlying structure) and filling each section with a fragment. I chose Fragment G13 from the Primer. I have never liked Tripoli until now! But I will not discount it in the future. This gave me a really good understanding of Reticula and Fragments.
