No string, random tangles. Squid was the first tangle that came up randomly, so I decided to go without a string, using the “arms” of Squid for the divisions of my tile. But then, the universe decided that today was “challenge day”, and delt me three medallion tangles in a row. Still thinking this could work as a kind of underwater scene, I added those to the tile. Hmmm.
Random String, random tangles. At first, I wasn’t sure how these tangles would work out together. But looking at the string, and assigning them places I could begin to see how this might look. I like having those strong, dark areas in the middle. I like the “swoop” of that area to the right. The lighter tangles on each side help balance things out, and the Pop-Cloud doesn’t overwhelm the tile.
Northwest. Various parts of the country have a history of native, tribal art which influences the decorative choices of that particular area. Recently, my husband traveled to Portland, Oregon for a business conference. While there, he found a book, "Looking at Indian Art of the Northwest Coast" by Hilary Stewart. I like the graphic effect produced by using black, white and red. So I decided to give it a try on a Zentangle. I don’t know how effective it is here, but it was an interesting exercise.
For my final Crazy Huggins sampler, I cut a large, apprentice-sized tile from a new paper I got recently. I filled the tile with Crazy Huggins shapes, then filled each element with another tangle. Somewhere along the line, the design developed a mind of its own, and decided not to be symmetrical anymore. But, honestly, I think that just made it “interesting!” This tile took quite a while to complete. I knew it might take a bit longer, but it turned out to be a lot longer! And, when I finished filling in all the shapes, I wasn’t sure I liked it. But, in true, Zentangle fashion, I continued on and shaded the design. However, it wasn’t until I added the highlights that I decided everything was fine.
Giving thanks. I have so many things to be thankful for this year, it would make a very long post to list them all. So I am going to tell you that I am grateful for my wonderful husband, beautiful daughters, and fabulous grandchildren. I am thankful for my good health and good life. I also am very thankful that I discovered Eni Oken. She is a fabulous artist that shares herself, her talent and her knowledge with others. Over this year, learning from her has taken my art to a whole ’nother level, as they say. This tile is another one based on her Tan Treasure video lesson . I think this is my favorite of all the techniques I’ve learned so far!
Blues. This tile was inspired by delft blue china pieces. It didn‘t actually turn out the way I hoped, but it‘s interesting in it‘s own right. It was fun experimenting with all the different shades of blue, and the Sand Swirl in the center makes a distinctive contrast with the rest. It‘s complicated. When I‘m stressed, taking time to tangle becomes even more important. It allows me to decompress and step away from the chaos. However, my tile often reflects what‘s going on around me. This tile is a case in point. I‘m not feeling good, and there is a lot of “stuff” going on that has me not following my “normal” routine.
