The Zentangle Primer.

Our group has changed books. We originally wanted to use the Zentangle Primer , but we had to wait because Amanda did not have a copy. So, while we were waiting for hers to arrive, we have been using the One Zentangle a Day book. Amanda received her Primer on Saturday, so we have both been reading/rereading the Primer. Today’s post is from the Primer, Lesson 1, Your First Tile.

Amanda’s artwork is above. She chose to put Crescent Moon in the lower right. I love the way she extended the spirals out beyond the borders! I think she did a great job balancing out the light and dark values.

My artwork is above. I put my Crescent Moon in the upper left. I created my Printemps very differently than my partner, and it’s interesting how much differently the two styles appear! I love comparing different looks for the same tangles!

As it happens, I’ve done this lesson before, when I first got the Primer. Here’s my first version.

While Crescent Moon is almost identical, the other tangles are somewhat different. Again, this shows how much variation there can be in even very simple, basic tangles!

When we have finished with the Primer , we will either go back to the One Zentangle a Day , or we will choose another that we both own. I’ll let you know when the time comes!
