Art Journal: Monsters: The Inner Critic

She’s the Mama of all the other monsters!

We each have our own Inner Critic. It’s that voice in your head that tells you you’re not good at something, or that you need to lose weight, or maybe that you’re not pretty/handsome. You know, that voice that makes you feel bad about yourself, what you do, what you want to accomplish. That voice that diminishes your confidence with each whisper.

I have mine and every artist that I know has theirs.

What we have to do is ignore it. The more we do that, the quieter the voice gets and the less it interferes with our lives. The easier it becomes to ignore.

I have a suggestion: Make a page (or just cut a page-sized piece of your favorite paper!) and create a representation of your own inner voice, and how you render it ineffective. It can be as realistic, silly, representational, fancy or simple as you like. Use paint, collage, stamps, ink, watercolor or anything else that appeals to you.

The concept is that if you silence it symbolically, you created an attitude of stopping it from disrupting what you want to do!

If you’re in the Micro Art Journaling group on Facebook, I hope you post your creation. There’s power in numbers. As a group, we support and encourage each other!
