Art Journal: Artists' Book 11

This layout is the transition to the Princess prompt. My thinking was, when I chose this as a possible theme, that even though we’re not “Rich and Famous”, each of us is deserving of being treated like royalty. I was also thinking that for each person, there is some aspect of our personality is regal or some way in which we treat ourselves as royalty.

On the left side, in the pocket, the sheet of paper has the words to “We’ll Never Be Royals” by Lorde. I felt that the chorus, in particular was appropriate:

And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I’ll rule (I’ll rule I’ll rule I’ll rule)
Let me live that fantasy

From there, I chose birds with crowns, a chandelier and other symbols that I felt were appropriate. These papers also have areas of printed glitter.

Judy Wood also contributed to this layout by advising and creating tags which I further embellished.

I loved the “map” of the formal garden, which might be found on an large estate or castle grounds and turned it into a pocket to hold tags.

I like the way this turned out, for an introduction to the feeling of the theme. I hadn’t done any pages in this style in a long time, and it was fun!
