Art Journal: Bee Bold

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a layout from my tiny art journal. These books are 2-7/8 inches high by 2 inches wide when closed.

Today’s layout was inspired by a color challenge from another group. The colors were Quinacridone Magenta, Naples Yellow and Mars Black. I was working on a full-sized layout and had some leftover paint, so I spread it on the background on this tiny page.

While the large page was drying, I went digging in my stash for tiny pieces papers the would work with the colors. I glued them to the page with Matte Medium.

The next step was to add more texture using a stencil and the leftover yellow paint.

While that dried, I thought about what else to put on the layout. I chose bees because of the honeycomb pattern of the stencil. I stamped the bees using two different stamps.

I colored in the bees with colored pencil and added a little bit of color around them.

I found the weed stamp, and added it to repeat the black and white paper texture.

Next came the words.

When all of this dried, I used gel pens to add tiny accents in a few places.

It amazes me how much detail you can actually get in a such a small space!
