Masking

Usually, when I am talking about masking, it is as it applies to art. For example, watercolor painting. You use a “masking fluid” to preserve the white of the paper to create highlights. When you are done, and your paint is dry, you remove the masking to reveal the white.

Because of the new corona virus, we are looking at masking in a different way. However, it’s purpose is to preserve. Preserve health and life.

Wearing a cloth mask when you go out provides you with some protection, but more, it protects others, if we are infected but asymptomatic.

The practice mask you see above was made from the pattern at CraftPassion . I found that it fit very well and wasn’t difficult to make. I like that there is an option for a removeable nose wire. I like them because when the mask fits perfectly over the nose, my glasses don’t fog up.

This one fit me perfectly. I made it out of an old, girl’s nightgown that was in my fabric stash. The “string” is the cut off hem. As I mentioned, this was a “trial” to make sure the pattern worked. Now I can make several better ones!

I have a feeling that some time this year, you will be able to go to Walmart and in the underwear aisle, you’ll see: underwear, socks and masks, side-by-side. They are probably here to stay for a while.

Stay safe.
