Project Pack 07 - Day 6 - Hollis, Moon Pie

Today’s video, located here , shows Rick drawing Hollis on a Zendala tile.

This is only the second time I’ve drawn Hollis. This first time was about a month ago, and I didn’t really have the hang of it yet. You can see the previous attempt here . I really appreciate the video and being able to watch someone else draw it!

After the Hollis is drawn, then Moon Pie is added to all the “V” shapes. This went well until adding shading to each one. I did not work to put pencil on top of the gold ink. You can find one place where the gold was picked up by the pencil and the tortillon and moved, smearing the design. I used a different technique on the rest of the Moon Pies.

Another issue I had with the gold ink was with the step to add a white “highlight” on each orb using the white micron pen. That did not work at all. The gold just moved out of the way, piled up and caused the white pen to stop working. I ended up using a white india ink pen.

And yes, I let the gold ink dry for hours.

I really like the gold ink for coloring in orbs and bigger shapes. I’m not fond of actually tangling with it, and it rarely works for me to put anything on top of it.

Other than that issue, this was fun and moved along quickly. I am willing to invest a lot of time tangling, but it’s nice to have something simple and easy to do when time is at a premium.

Zentangle drawn on gray, Zentangle Zendala tile using blue-black and blue Micron pens. Shading done with graphite pencil. Highlights done with white chalk pencil. Also used: lt blue, General Pastel pencil, and gold Sakura Gelly Roll pens.
