I was looking through my library of Zentangle books, and I came across Beckah Krahula’s “One Zentangle A Day”. I haven’t looked at this book in a very long time, so I pulled it out and began reading. I like her writing style and appreciate how well she covers various topics.
The tile above is the “Day 1 Exercise”. This chapter is all about getting acquainted with your tools. She introduces three beginner tangles: Crescent Moon, Static and Tipple.
I started with a traditional, white Zentangle tile. I drew a simple string that had a large loop about in the center of the tile. Well, that certainly cried out as the space to place the Crescent Moon in all it’s glory!
Looking at the remainder of the space, I wasn’t too sure where to put the other tangles, so I just started by putting a section of static across the upper left corner. Then I decided to balance it out with a section of the same tangle across the opposite corner.
As I was trying to figure out where to put the Tipple, I realized that I could put more static in the remaining corners and fill the area between the jagged lines and the circular center!
I’m telling you all of this so that you can see how one tangle can lead you to another and how it all just works out!
A long time ago, I did a kind of free-form poetry story that went along with several tangled tiles about a space/astral traveler. I feel like this tile would fit well into that theme, with it’s ship-like central orb appearing to break out of orbit into another dimension…. or is it breaking INTO another dimension? It’s all a point of view!
