This started out with a leftover tangle, Carpet Daisy, from yesterday’s random tangles. I kept it for today because I wanted to use it with some other tangles for a “botanical” tile.

There wasn’t much of a string for this, Just a couple of loops. I filled one loop with the first section of Carpet Daisy. Then the bigger loop, I decided to fill with Chainlea. I wanted to use Plum Leaf so I added several, overlapping at the bottom.

At this point, I knew I needed some kind of leaf shape around the daisy, so I pulled out Poke Leaf and Toodles. I added the smaller leaves behind the Chainlea and the Toodles behind and around the larger Carpet Daisy. To balance out the composition, I added the other two sections of Carpet Daisy.

At this point, I felt like I was almost done, but I needed something else at the lower right. I wanted something with some height to create a kind of diagonal division between the top and the bigger leaves at the bottom, creating a visual line between the two.

After going through many tangles I finally found Reef. This tangle was perfect!

So, I hope this gives you some insight into how I think about tangling and my creative process. I don’t usually have a fully visualized end point. Instead, I tend to have a thematic idea and then build from there.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Whatever the outcome, it’s always a learning, meditative experience.
