Inktober Tangles - Day 18 - Middleton by Yu Ru Chen
Middleton is a very geometric tangle that is created in a square frame.
I chose to make this as a grid tangle, rotating the square in different directions to create a symetrical pattern.
To start, I drew a 4x4 grid string with my pencil. I find dividing the tile into four sections pretty easy, since you can start in the center of an edge, and then divide up each side.
As for completing each sections, I recommend you think of your straight lines as going behind other setions, rather than doing each square individually. It will help to keep all your lines straight and the spacing even!
I did all the decorative lines in the side sections last. I wanted to make sure the style of the lines alternated from square to square so for this, I did the squares individually, in order. I find that keeps me from getting lost and making a mistake.
Finally, I did not add a lot of shading, just enough to add dimension where I thought it was needed.
I am very happy with the end results. However, I don’t really see myself using this tangle very much because I think it would be difficult to include other tangles with it.
I am looking forward to see what others did with this!
