Project Pack 28 - Day 1

The video for this day’s project is located here .

This 12 days of Zentangle Project pack takes insipiration from the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. The base color of the tiles is a bit darker than the standard tan, Zentangle Renaissance tiles. The colorings and inspiration is taken from various drawings, but then interpreted in the Zentangle style. Below is an example of a page of drawings from Leonardo’s sketches.

For this first tile, inspiration was a design of a water wheel. The tangle Phicops is used to imitate the idea of a wheel that could scoop up water, while the Flux tangle border could indicate droplets falling from the wheel.

When I started drawing this tile, I felt the design was a bit too simplistic. But then I realized, it’s lovely on it’s own. It also introduces you to the materials you’ll be working with throught the 12 days. And honestly, it has taken me several days to complete, although that is mostly because I haven’t had a lot of time to tangle recently.

It turned out that working on this was very “Zen”. I spent a lot of time coloring each petal of the fan, adding highlights and shading. The border went quickly and I think the contrast added a lot more style to the tile.

I am probably going to repeat this tile again in the future, perhaps adding to the petals.

Enjoy!

Zentangle drawn on a darker tan, Zentangle Zendala, using brown and sepia Micron pens. Color created with General’s Pastel pencil. Shading done with graphite pencil. Highlights created with white chalk pencil.
